Types of Lapel Pins and Their Descriptions
1. Soft Enamel Lapel Pins
The most popular and cost-effective style of custom lapel pin. Soft enamel pins feature recessed color areas with raised metal lines that can be felt when touched. They offer vibrant colors and excellent detail, making them ideal for service pins, recognition awards, and organizational logos.
Best For: Fire service pins, EMS recognition pins, anniversary pins, and promotional pins.
2. Hard Enamel Lapel Pins
Hard enamel pins have a smooth, polished surface because the enamel is filled level with the metal lines and then polished flat. They are highly durable and have a jewelry-quality appearance.
Best For: Executive recognition awards, commemorative pins, and high-end service awards.
3. Die Struck Lapel Pins
These pins contain no color and rely entirely on raised and recessed metal areas to create the design. Available in polished or antique finishes, die struck pins have a classic and elegant appearance.
Best For: Fire department badges, years of service awards, memorial pins, and formal recognition pieces.
4. Offset Printed Lapel Pins
Offset printed pins allow for full-color photographs, gradients, and highly detailed artwork that cannot be achieved with enamel. The design is printed directly onto the pin's surface and protected with an epoxy coating.
Best For: Complex logos, photographs, and highly detailed artwork.
5. Photo-Etched Lapel Pins
Photo-etched pins are created by chemically etching the design into a thin sheet of metal. They can capture very fine details and are typically filled with soft enamel colors.
Best For: Intricate logos, badges, and detailed organizational emblems.
6. Screen Printed Lapel Pins
Instead of using enamel-filled recessed areas, colors are printed directly onto the metal surface. This process allows for precise color matching and small details.
Best For: Corporate logos, detailed graphics, and small text.
7. Cloisonné Lapel Pins
A premium pin style where colored mineral powders are fired at high temperatures and polished to a smooth finish. Cloisonné pins are exceptionally durable and have a rich, jewelry-like appearance.
Best For: Distinguished service awards, executive gifts, and commemorative pieces.
8. 3D Molded Lapel Pins
These pins feature sculpted, three-dimensional elements that create depth and realism. They can be produced with or without color.
Best For: Fire apparatus pins, custom badges, mascots, and specialty recognition pieces.
